A half-check is pulled over the head. It rests loosely on a slack leash, then reduces in circumference when the dog pulls or backs away. It should have a clear limit. This is controlled tightening, not a contest to see who gives up first.

Which dog needs a classic collar?

Choose a classic collar for predictable daily wear, puppies, calm walkers, and dogs that dislike over-the-head equipment.

How to measure correctly

Measure the widest part of the head over the ears. The collar is a closed loop and must pass over that route. Do not substitute neck size. A 19-inch head will not squeeze through a collar ordered from a 16-inch neck measurement just because checkout accepted the number.

How wide should it be?

Small dog: commonly 13–19 mm.
Medium dog: often 19–32 mm.
Strong, blocky dog: commonly 32–50 mm.
Short neck: avoid widths that hit the jaw or shoulders.

If the collar rolls or digs into one strip, it is probably too narrow or too soft. If it blocks head movement, it is too wide. Looking huge is not the same as fitting well.
